Today, some people romanticize ancient paganism as a noble, nature-loving, warrior tradition. They LARP as Hellenists, worship Zeus or Thor, and claim Christianity “destroyed” European culture. But what do the actual myths, laws, and historical records reveal? A much darker picture. One filled with pederasty, rape, incest, child sacrifice, and ritual violence. I think the Youtube channel called “Gott Mit Uns” does a great job explaining the history on paganism. The channel has good information on many subjects from a very unique perspective. This post is based on his video. This is the dark truth about paganism:
Paganism = Liberalism on Steroids “Paganism Lite” Is Already Here
Modern liberalism, LGBTQ movements, abortion, and earth worship are not new. They are Paganism Lite. The full version ancient Greek, Roman, Canaanite, and Phrygian paganism was far worse.
Liberals normalized homosexuality and transgenderism. Pagans went much further: institutionalized pederasty (erotic “love” of adult men for boys), temple prostitution, ritual infanticide, and orgiastic cults that even the Roman Senate had to ban.
If you want real paganism, don’t stop at Pride parades go all the way back to Zeus abducting Ganymede or Apollo with Hyacinth.
The Gods Themselves Were Predators: Zeus, Apollo & the Normalization of Child Rape
Greek and Roman mythology is not “just stories” interpreted symbolically. The gods were role models and they were monsters by modern (and Christian) standards.
- Zeus, king of the gods, raped his own daughter Persephone and slept with his mother Rhea in Orphic tradition. He abducted the Trojan boy Ganymede to serve as his eternal cupbearer and lover.
- Apollo, another major god, had a pederastic relationship with the boy Hyacinth. Statues and myths openly depict these relationships.
- Plato and Socrates discuss “noble” erotic love for boys (paides, often 12–16 or younger) as a path to divine beauty. Athenian law only restricted slaves from pursuing free boys. Free men could “erotically love” and pursue them.
In ancient Athens, eros (erotic love) between adult men and young boys was not hidden. It was culturally protected and philosophically defended. Gymnasiums (where men exercised naked and oiled) were notorious for this.
Christianity made such acts taboo and criminal. That’s not “oppression” it’s moral progress.

Even Worse: Child Sacrifice, Incest & the Orphic/Attis Cults
Paganism wasn’t just sexual deviance:
- In ancient Greece and Rome, infanticide (especially of unwanted girls) was common. Babies left on mountains to die or be taken for worse fates.
- Canaanites and Carthaginians burned children alive or drained their blood as sacrifices to gods like Molech.
- The cult of Attis and Cybele involved self-castration. Priests known as Galli were transgendered/eunuch men who participated in wild orgies. Rome sponsored this cult, yet even Romans found the excesses disturbing.
The Bacchanalia (worship of Dionysus/Bacchus) became so degenerate involving rape, murder, ritual killings, and secret societies. That the Roman Senate suppressed it in 186 BC. Livy describes wine-fueled orgies, and terror spreading across Italy. It sounded like an ancient “Eyes Wide Shut” for the elite.
Temple prostitution in places like Corinth dedicated thousands of men and women to Aphrodite for ritual sex.
Christianity Did Not Destroy European Traditions — It Sanitized and Saved Them
Pagans love to claim: “Christianity erased our culture!”
The truth is the opposite. Christians claimed and purified pre-Christian traditions:
- Many Christians still perform ancient pagan-rooted rituals, but under the Church’s blessing, without the rape, murder, or child abuse.
- Churches preserved folk customs, festivals, and seasonal rites while removing the demonic elements (pedophilia, infanticide, orgies, human sacrifice).
- Christianity teaches: Love God, love your neighbor, respect creation, and believe in resurrection of Jesus and final judgment.
You can keep your European heritage without bringing back Zeus the rapist or Attis the self-castrated.
True Christianity and serious nationalism have historically gone together far better than LARPing as Thor or Apollo.

Why Christianity Rejected Paganism?
Paganism glorified power without morality, pleasure without limits, and “freedom” that included exploiting the weak (especially children and unwanted girls). This is why Christianity rejected paganism.
This is why Christianity rejected paganism. Christians cannot stay silent. We must condemn what paganism truly stood for and defend why Christianity triumphed over it.
Christianity brought:
- Condemnation of pedophilia and homosexuality.
- Protection of children and the vulnerable.
- Sanctification of marriage and life.
- Unity: the Christian faith became a unifying element.
If you’re a Westerner flirting with paganism or certain interpretations of Islam (noting historical concerns like Muhammad’s marriage to Aisha), ask yourself: Are you attracted to the aesthetics and “strength”… or to attracted to the loopholes for darker impulses?
Christianity didn’t destroy your ancestors’ culture. It rescued it from its worst excesses and gave Europe its soul.
We also need to be aware of false christians: Judge Christianity by our books and what we teach. If men act in opposition to Christ and the writings, then they are not Christians but hypocrites.
