There is a trap that many Christians need to avoid and it is more dangerous than you might think. The bible also talks about this dangerous trap. It is the temptation to live a double live…
You know it is easy just to get caught up appearances. Going to church, posting Bible verses and saying good things in front of other people. The question is: Are we living out the truth of God’s Word when no one is watching?
What does the Bible say about this trap?
James 1:22 warns us. ‘’But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.’’
Living a live when we profess faith, but don’t practice it can lead to spiritual emptiness. It is a dangerous place to be, because we start to deceive ourselves. Thinking that outward actions are enough. Do we seek the reward from other people, or do we want to be rewarded by God?
Matthew 6:5-6 says the following about hypocrites: 5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
Jesus calls us to live differently. Following Him is not just about checking off a list of religious tasks. It is about allowing Him to change us from the inside out. Letting our actions reflect the truth that we know.
In Matthew 7:21 Jesus says: ‘’Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.’’
Conclusion on the trap Christians need to avoid:
So do not settle for a life that just looks good on the outside. Avoid the trap of hypocrisy. Let your faith truly transform your actions and your heart.
Deep down I know all I need is God and that there is nothing in this world that is a substitution for my relationship with Him. For God is the only one who is faithful, truly loving, and purely loving. Man changes and therefore so do your relationships, but God never changes and neither will your relationship. It will only grow and get better if you give yourself to Him.
Do not be a Christian that falls into the trap of hypocrisy!
