Extract and purify your own water
A large part of a human being’s fixed costs are the expenses for food and water. It is also very important to have enough of it, which is good enough for drinking and other uses.
Only a bacterium can spoil your entire water supply and then you suddenly can’t use it. Therefore it is wise to extract and filter your own water rather than storing much water. The different ways to get this together are described below.
Water pipeline
The best way to get water is by simply getting it out of the ground. Obtaining water from the soil is unfortunately prohibited in some areas and this must be checked by the municipality. If there is permission for using groundwater, look at the best option. You can choose between a water pipe or a water well. A water supply can be arranged by a professional company, which can cost a lot of money. By doing it yourself you save a lot of money. Unstopping this pipe can be impossible without the right tools. This ensures that you remain dependent on someone with the right tools. Unless you want to purchase these tools, it’s wiser to dig a well.
A Well
For example, a water well can be dug using concrete rings. By digging the sand beneath this ring goes down. Then place a new concrete ring above it. This way you dig deeper into the groundwater. The advantage of this is that you can also get water without the use of electricity. A simple bucket with a rope tight is sufficient. And if the well dries out, it’s quite simple to dig it out further. In addition to digging a well, you can also use a simple water pump. Rinse the sand and then suck away, saving a lot of hard work.
Rainwater
Another method of watering is through the catching of rainwater. Water that falls on the roofs through snow and rain can be collected through the rain pipe. Depending on what you want to do with the water you can choose a water tank for different purposes. If the surface of a roof is not sufficient then it can simply be increased with the use of a large piece of plastic to catch the rain.
Distillate seawater
Distillation is a technique for separating two or more substances in solution by evaporation, based on the difference in boiling point of these substances. As we have good access to the sea in the Netherlands, distilling seawater can be a solution to the water problem. The disadvantage, however, is that it takes a lot of energy and time. However, if there is no other solution then it can be done in the following way.
2. Flask with distillate mixture
3. Connector
4. Thermometer
5. Liebig cooler
6. Cooling water supply
7. Cooling water drainage
8. Distillation bottle, collecting condensate
9. Open gas supply or vacuum opening
10. Grinding piece / connector that collects the condensate
13. Magnetic stirrer / heater
14. Hot water or oil bath
15. Optional magnetic stirrup, glass beads or cooking stone
16. Optional cooling bath.
Recycling
The last method of watering yourself is by recycling. Water used for shower, sink and toilet can be collected in a septic tank. In these tanks, the water is “purified” by settling down on the bottom.
